What is the Grand Strand? It stretches from Shallotte, North Carolina to Georgetown, South Carolina. Myrtle Beach was nicknamed The Grand Strand years ago because of the 60 miles of beach that make up Myrtle Beach. In the early 1900’s, Myrtle Beach began as a summer beach resort only visited during the summer months by families who lived on inland farms. Beach cottages and the Seaside Inn lined the Grand Strand shoreline. Once The Grand Strand was discovered, hotels were built to accommodate summer visitors from the northeast corridor. |

The Grand Strand has a rich history as a summer vacation destination. In the early days, hotels would close down following the Labor Day Weekend. As golf courses were opened, hotels decided to stay open year round and Myrtle Beach was transformed into a golf destination. Visitors continued to stay during the summer months and as they fell in love with all the activities within the coastal community, they purchased condos as long term investments for rental and vacation properties. Management property companies, much like Seaside Vacations, started representing owners who wanted to rent their condos to out of town golfers and summer guests. The rental programs allowed golfer, to come and stay in fully functional condos which gave them the feel of being in their own home, while playing golf. |
