Hootie and the Blowfish Monday After the Masters is holding the 14th annual golf tournament at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort and Golf in Myrtle Beach. This marks the fourth year Barefoot Resort has hosted the charitable event. Celebrates from music, film and athletics lend their time to play in the pro-am in order to raise money for causes that are close to the band’s heart. In 2007, monies were donated to Save the Music programs and South Carolina Junior Golf.
VH1 Save the Music is a non-profit organization dedicated to servicing elementary school children of all backgrounds and diversities. They purchase musical instruments for public schools or districts where music programs were cut out of the budget or are at risk of elimination because the schools or district do not have enough instruments. Research has shown that children in music programs improve in basic math and reading ability, self-esteem, SAT scores, ability to work in teams and school attendance. VH1 Save the Music has donated $40 million worth of musical instruments to 1500 public schools in over 100 cities, improving the lives of more than 1 million children. A portion of the proceeds form Monday After the Masters is donated to this very worthwhile charity.
South Carolina Junior Golf is a non-profit organization that helps promote junior golf in the state of South Carolina. Tournaments are conducted throughout the state in which junior golfers of all ages compete. Junior golf programs teach more than the game of golf. The tournaments teach sportsmanship and honesty to juniors who participate in their events.
